"Must I?" Sir Didymus asked as he stood on a rock looking forlornly out at the masked faces staring back at him. Sarah was to his left, her hand on a tree, Toby commanded the middle of the yard directly across from him, Ludo had Hoggle tucked under his arm to his right, and interspersed among them was a smattering of goblins.
Toby put a hand on his hip. "That's the Pernicious Poem Place. It's the rules."
Sir Didymus looked imploringly at Sarah, who only shrugged in response.
"Very well, then," he said with as much dignity as he could mu

Author's Note:
Rather than a proper one-shot like most of these 100 Themes tend to be, this really is just a drabbly scene. Now, I know more about this story than you will, but not a whole heck of a lot more. This is actually a scene for a sequel to another story I haven't actually written. I know. Anyway... since I don't know if I'll ever get around to writing it, I'm just letting this scene out of the Dungeon of Forgotten Fics to get a little sunshine and fresh air.

Summary: Sarah has a weakness—she just can't stop playing the game.
Labyrinth - Jareth/Sarah

People say such nice things at funerals—things they had been too afraid to say in person, or things that made them feel better about themselves that they didn't really mean at all. Sarah scowled at the small misfit congregation and had no doubt which it was. She had a few words of her own to say, only she couldn't, not ever again.
The Wiseman stood at the head of the group reading from a tattered book, his hat humming along in a nonsensical jumble of melodies. Sarah thought she heard what suspiciously sounded like Bowi

Her skin prickled, like the pinch of a thousand tiny leeches. The cold latched on, feeding on her warmth, burying deep into the marrow of her bones to wait for spring. Trees cracked under the weight of snowfall, the loud snap splintering her nerves. Sarah tugged irritably at the collar of her coat, pulling it snug around her neck, and then tripped over a fallen branch.
Cursing under her breath, she took a step forward only to realize she was caught; ligneous claws, dead and rawboned, grasped at the laces of her sneaker. She wanted to take it as some kind of divine sign she sh

She had to be seeing things.
Sarah sucked in her bottom lip and bit down. Without registering it as a conscious decision, she pressed her foot on the brake and let the car come to slow stop, the inertia seeming to transfer to the butterflies in her stomach. She gripped the steering wheel hard and then turned her head.
It was just as she thought. She hadn't been imagining it at all. The Goblin King was actually sitting in a folding chair by a roadside fruit stand reading the newspaper.

"Hey, hey."
Sarah looked up at the familiar greeting, a tall, lanky man ducking into the room. He wore his usual uniform: blue jeans, a tattered baseball cap, and a white t-shirt that read "Feather and Fang Wildlife Sanctuary". She smiled. "Hey, Jim."
He came up to stand behind her, looking over her shoulder. "What you got going this morning?"
Sarah turned her attention back to her preparations. "Brea

She proceeded to hop along the ledge, tilting her head curiously at the bedazzled coat tossed haphazardly on the back of a chair near the window. Apparently deciding shiny was just what she was looking for, she plucked at a strand, and tugged.

You guys. Guys. Guys. US peeps. Um. (RL stuff)
I... follow a lot of US-based political blogs. And have friends out there, and ... find what is currently going absolutely f*cking terrifying and enraging on a visceral bloodboiling level. But, you know. That's just me, out in some secular socialist Old World country, quaffing down my cheap birth control pills and, outrageously, not crippled by hospital bills after my freelance boyfriend's domestic accident of two years ago because of all that damned taxpayer money going into a national health insurance.
But that, of course, is anecdata and nothing to go forming political opinions on. (Also I have a uterus, and what with all those
